On Saturday, June 20, Toronto’s Artscape Wychwood Barns was filled with Latin American and Canadian flags. At first glance, the scene resembled a gathering of fans watching FIFA World Cup matches. However, those carrying so many colours had not come to cheer on their national football teams. They were there to dance, celebrate their roots, and take part in the Latin Social Fan Fiesta, the first day of the Soccer International Cup Latin Fair 2026, organized by the Hispanic Canadian Heritage Council (HCHC).
The afternoon brought together a wide variety of rhythms, artists, and cultural expressions, along with an exhibition of Hispanic photographers that offered a visual reflection of the community’s multiple identities.
The program opened with dance performances by Shum de Salsa, Colombia Entre Venas, Grupo JDT, Gotta Danza, and Momentum Dance Co., showcasing styles ranging from salsa to folk and contemporary dance.
Urban music took centre stage later in the day with performances by Loco Guanaco, Descortés, Pipe Amantee, Honey Benjamin, Master Ruff, and Stardy. One of the most anticipated moments was the DJ competition, featuring Juan Diego De la Cruz, Nelson Bárcenas, Víctor Díaz Suárez, and Orlando Yépez, who won first place.
The celebration continued with the energy of Cumbia Power, a special performance by EY Band, and a closing set by Latintos, keeping the crowd dancing late into the night.
To recharge between sets, attendees enjoyed mocktails from La Casita Cocktail Crew, as well as tacos from A lo Mexicano and Chilean empanadas and completos prepared by Chile con Chilee.
Over five hours, music, dance, and cultural pride transformed this Toronto space into a meeting point for communities from across Latin America, united by rhythm and the festive spirit that also accompanies the FIFA World Cup.
